Online High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
