NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
