Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While wagering on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world may be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
