Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he loved playing numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting really aggressive in these card games while playing his father. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York to participate in some big-time chess. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would frequently play against each other. Howard had access into some of the foremost players in chess. With their help, Howard would tweak his logical thinking skills. He applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she would always be asking questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
