Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
